Our Lady of Guadalupe

Vincentian Family Prayer

Lord Jesus,
You who willed to become poor, give us eyes and a heart directed toward the poor, help us to recognize you in them – in their thirst, their hunger, their loneliness, and their misfortune.
Enkindle within our Vincentian Family unity, simplicity, humility, and the fire of love that burned in St. Vincent de Paul.
Strengthen us, so that, faithful to the practice of these virtues, we may contemplate you and serve you in the person of the poor, and may one day be united with you and them in your glory.
Amen.

The Cry of the Poor

Father in Heaven,
Inspired by the example of Your servants, St. Vincent de Paul & Blessed Frederic Ozanam, may we hear the cry of the poor whom you love.
May we seek out and find all those suffering in illness, loneliness, fear, or deprivation.
By feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and comforting the afflicted, may we bring them the light of Your love.
Amen

Prayer for Courage

Jesus, Lord and Savior,
Risen from death,
Let us not be afraid to go wherever we can see you:
In the face of the hungry child,
In the faces of those without homes,
In the faces of the cold, and the lonely.
May we see you in the faces of those who are prisoners of mental illness and addiction, of those who are house-bound and those in prison.
Fill our hearts with gladness and our souls with joy, that we may share your love and peace with those whom we serve with love, respect, justice and joy.
May Your Word be known through our works!
Amen

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful with the fire of your love.
Melt us, mould us, fill us, and use us.
Fill us with power, with love, mercy and compassion,
With self-control and all your fruits and all your gifts.
Drive far from us any spirit of fear or timidity, defeat or despondency,
any discouragement or lukewarmness in the service of Jesus, our Lord.
Instead, give us a spirit of boldness and such faith in Jesus to move mountains and mulberry bushes:
Mountains such as prejudice and bigotry,
Mulberry bushes of complacency, apathy and indifference.

Purifying, Sanctifying, Fire of Divine Love,
Make us holy and loving even as we have been called to be a whole, holy and loving People.
Root our from us all our selfishness, especially the sin that clings.
Grant that we may overcome our own selfish, disordered and defensive inclinations.
Let us overcome the enticement of the world and its systems which enslave,
which reward the rich and powerful but oppress, exploit and deprive the poor, the weak, the vulnerable.
Let us overcome the deceit of Satan the Liar who exploits the world's systems to make them even more oppressive and evil.
Grant that the loving-kindness and peace of our God may be powerful, efficacious and evident in the life and lives of your People,
To the glory of God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Grace Before a Meal

Our Father in Heaven,

We thank you for our daily bread which you provide, for the fresh food in our fridge and the groceries in our pantry, and the food on our table.

Fill our hearts with your generous compassion, that those of us who have more than enough might share with those who do not have enough.

Bless them, and bless us, Lord, and these gifts which we receive from you who make the sun to shine and the rain to fall on all of us, good and bad, poor and rich.

We ask this though Jesus your Son, who is Christ the Lord. Amen.
